In Phuket Province, the police arrested suspects involved in illegal drug trafficking. One of them, a citizen of the Republic of Korea, had been evading investigation on the island for eight years.
According to sources, the man was internationally wanted and was under investigation for illegal drug trafficking. Today around 17:54, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 occurred on Sumatra Island.
The epicenter was located about 168 kilometers deep in North Sumatra. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Phuket Province.
According to Thaitabloid.com, the Phuket provincial police and the anti-corruption unit jointly conducted an operation to arrest the suspect. He was apprehended at one of the luxurious villas on the island.
During the search, narcotics with a value of approximately 600,000 baht were discovered and seized. The suspect was taken to a police station for further investigation.
The next steps include forensic examination of the substances and interrogating witnesses. Phuket police continue to enhance security measures on the island through the Phuket Eye system, which uses modern technology to boost safety levels.
