The Body of the Missing Teen from Mai Khao Found in the Sea; Operation Concludes on Phuket's Northern Coast. The operation to search for a person missing at sea, which began on August 14 and concluded north of Phuket, has ended with the discovery of the body. The missing individual was identified as 17-year-old Thirayut Anuma. The teenager drowned while spearfishing. His body was found the following day in Pak Phra Strait, separating Phuket from the mainland. According to The Phuket News, Thirayut had set out on a fishing trip with an 18-year-old friend and another child aged eight. They reached the mouth of Nai Yang Canal on the Phang-Net province side and began spearfishing. While the two older ones were fishing, the eight-year-old boy remained in the boat. At some point, Thirayut disappeared underwater. His 18-year-old companion also started experiencing difficulties and struggled to stay afloat, but was noticed by an adult nearby. The subsequent search operation involved Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation rescuers, Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO), Yacht Haven Marina staff, local search groups, and Pahang Province rescue teams. The search area gradually expanded due to the strong current in the strait. Operations were suspended by evening on August 14 due to waves and poor visibility. On the following morning, searches resumed, including with Kusoldharm Phuket divers. The Phuket News reports that after a day (around 13:30 on August 15), rescuers found Thirayut's body floating in the water relatively close to where he disappeared. Thirayut's relatives confirmed his identity, and the body was then handed over to the family for religious ceremonies and burial at Mai Khao cemetery. The PPAO bulletin previously published focused on this teenager’s search, with minimal information about the missing person and circumstances of the incident. It is likely that such limited initial details were partly due to Thirayut being a minor. Thirayut's death is part of a list of three fatal incidents in Phuket waters over the past week:
- On August 10, a tourist from Germany died on Freedom Beach.
- On August 16, a French citizen drowned at Bang Tao Beach.
