The Pattaya Police are conducting a tough crackdown on networks involved in the distribution of illegal weapons and other crimes. During the operation, several police officers were arrested for extortion from tourists, mainly Chinese visitors who came for vacation.
According to Thairath.co.th, one of the arrested police officers was removed from duty after he was seen attempting to extort money from a group of Chinese tourists. The tourists reported to local media that they were given unjustified fines and odd invoices.
Pattaya Police also declared war on illegal weapons and online sales of arms. As part of this operation, raids were conducted in local stores and markets where fake and illegal pistols were being sold.
In connection with the death of a Georgian citizen documented under Article 115 of the Georgian legislation, Pattaya Police held a meeting with representatives of the local administration to discuss ways to improve law enforcement operations. The next steps include forensic examination and interrogations of the arrested police officers.
Currently, all those detained are in custody, awaiting court decisions.
