The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand announced a reduction in the average daily loss from internet scams from 100 million to 25 million baht. This decrease comes as the country prepares for the implementation of new rules aimed at returning funds to cybercrime victims. The new rules, published on May 14, 2569 (2026 in the Gregorian calendar), will take effect in 90 days, or August 12, 2026. These changes will allow the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to quickly return funds to victims through a special committee, bypassing lengthy court procedures. Currently, authorities are developing detailed procedures and criteria to ensure fast and efficient compensation payments to cybercrime victims. It is expected that this new development will significantly simplify the process of returning stolen funds and increase trust in the country's financial system.
