Russian drug courier arrested while delivering narcotics to Phuket. A Russian citizen was arrested by Phuket police for possession of narcotics with the intention of distribution. A native of St. Petersburg, Matvey Gorskii was arrested on May 18 at the Tha Chat Chai checkpoint in Mai Khao. The man drew attention during a routine inspection of a long-distance bus from Pattaya to Phuket. Specifically, the 29-year-old Russian citizen attempted to hide a bag from the police, according to a copy of the police report available to Phuket News. After inspecting the Russian citizen's luggage, police found almost 2 kg of narcotics of six different types. The Russian citizen had the following items seized: ▫️Metamphetamines - 564.7 g ▫️Mephedrone - 471.9 g ▫️Heroin - 129.8 g ▫️Ecstasy - 51 g ▫️Amphetamines - 54.6 g ▫️Ketamine - 582 g Additionally, as evidence, the Russian citizen's MacBook, two mobile phones, and 11,300 baht in cash were also added to the case. The suspect was handed over to the Tha Chat Chai police station's investigation unit. The police did not clarify whether they were able to access the contents of Mr. Gorskii's electronic devices and his messaging app accounts. According to a police report, a Russian was registered in Pattaya at 75/50 Moo 12, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung, Chonburi. According to the DBD database, an accounting firm SK Business Solutions is also located at the same address. The company, with which Mr. Gorsky was registered at the same address, began its activities during the period of mass relocation of Russians of conscription age to Thailand. The company's owners are two Thai citizens and one Russian citizen or resident. However, the name of the Russian co-owner is not indicated in the available DBD website card. Mr. Gorsky himself relocated to Thailand from Russia in October 2022, after which he repeatedly made visa runs to extend the permitted period of stay in the country under various visas. At the time of his arrest on May 18, 2026, the Russian was in the country based on a 60-day tourist visa-free stay.
